Dear Mark,
As you know, St. Andrew’s Day isn’t far off. I need a veggie alternative starter perhaps a Scots hummus. I’m most of the the way there (split peas, pine nuts/walnuts, garlic, lemon thyme) but what about the cumin substitute? Your site suggests spignel/baldmoney but there’s not much hope of finding that here on the Mendips (maybe my forebears in Ecclefechan might have had more luck!). Any suggestions?

Angelica seeds are spicy, aromatic and abundant just now. As are common hogweed seeds. Worth a try..?
